Hey Alan I've been a big Bowie fan since I first heard his music would you have a tab for Jean Genie?
"It's all about stickin it to the man!"
It's a long way to the top if you want to rock n roll!
I think Elmore James' "Dust My Broom" is the first I played more or less recognizably.
"A cheerful heart is good medicine."
The first song I played on my electric was "Photograph". The Def Leppard one, not Nickelback. It's really easy. The solo isn't hard either. Just give it some distortion and wail away! :D
Damn I'm old, Johnny B. Good for me
Immature? Of course I'm immature Einstein, I'm 50 and in a Rock and ROll band.

If I remember correctly mine was Strange Brew by Cream, about a year ago :D
I learned a bunch of riffs first (smoke on the water, iron man etc...), but the first song i learned from start to finish was Fell in Love with a Girl by the White Stripes. It's a pretty easy song with just 5 power chords and a nice fast tempo.

I wish - Tab barely existed when I was learning so I did it all from piano score and chord boxes. the main riff is E - Esus4 - E, you can probably work out which strings you need to play from that. I'll dig out the book tonight and let you know the chorus progression. In the meantime, this might help

Mine will have been Street Spirit or Back in Black.

(Radiohead, RHCP, Jimi Hendrix - the big 3)
I recommend some nirvana song or Iron Man by Black Sabbath...
Good Luck!

Well, I am a country girl and I just got a new Telecaster for my birthday after playing acoustic for a year.
The first loud, annoy-the-neighbors, electric song that I am working on is Miranda Lambert's 'Kerosene'.
All my life I wanted to be somebody. Now I see I should have been more specific.
My first song on electric was "SimpleMan" by Lynryd Skynyrd. Quickly followed by many G'nR's songs.
The first thing that I learnt all the way through was "Apache" by the Shadows, if I remember - this was the first time around with guitar (1962-3-ish), which was followed by a 35+ year hiatus (girls, booze, work, marriage, children - the usual reasons . ).
I started with nothing - and I've still got most of it left.
Did you know that the word "gullible" is not in any dictionary?
