Hello,
I was browsing through the lessons on this site with "flamenco" specifically in mind. I saw a few references but no practical lessons as such for beginners. I wonder if anyone can point me in the right direction? Are there some beginner flamenco lessons on this site or does anyone know where else one can find them on the net.
Any help appreciated,
Thanks in advance,
Richard.
It's a really good Idea to find a Flamenco teacher. Flamenco is all about technique. It is similar to classical but goes further in that there is a considerable amount of improvisation involved. Without good technique you will sound sloppy. Make sure you read as much as you follow tabs. And always practice with a metronome.
If you're starting I'd highly recommend a flamenco teacher to set you up with the correct technique as it is quite different from standard guitar. Correct technique is vital to flamenco guitar. I took lessons with a good flamenco guitarist who was very strict. Did that for about 10 sessions till I felt that the rest is basically up to me to practice and practice. The important thing was to be set up in technique. Afterwards I got 2 instructional DVD's; "Oscar Herrero" which focuses on technique, and "Juan Martin flamenco for beginners" which has really good starting songs with tab and video. I highly recommend these 2.
good luck!
