i've been playing 5 months....i can play sweet open chords...been able to do so a while....i can dabble with barre chords..i can finger pick basic arpegios...
until a few days ago i missed the ONE most important aspect...rhythm
then literally two days ago i woke up...picked up my trusty acoustic...AND.....
it all clicked...i had rhythm...the strumming suddenly made my chord changes into music....just like that!!!
i feel i've hit the crest of a steep hill....downhill from here i hope....freewheel into musicianship...
even theory is making sense
i've spent the last few weeks walking in 4/4 time......catching the beat of songs on the radio while driving....listening....thats listening!!!!
the point i'm making here....all you new guys.....
it WILL connect......give it time and dont lose heart...i so nearly did....it will get into your head...
the thrill i feel now is like the best drug in the world...
i crave soooooo much more..
i'm addicted
I had a similar experience...I took a break for a few days, and when I picked up the guitar it was like I didn't even have to think about playing, it was just natural...Maybe there IS light at the end of the tunnel after all!! :D

Thanks for posting this Ballybiker.
I'm 2 months into it and needed that inspiration.
Right now I'm struggling with basic Bass-Strum patterns.
It's nice to know there's light at the end of the tunnel.
Cheers,
Steve
Grats! Keep sharing stuff like this folks, it will inspire us newbies :D Seems like there's so much to learn
There's a lot of peaks and valleys. Plenty of plateaus. Persistence certainly helps. Practice, of course, makes perfect. Doing those tedious exercises often feels pointless but they are often what get you to the next level. So, keep doing those mindless chromatic scales, triplets, and picking exercises. Just don't think about what you're doing. Think about what you plan to accomplish. That will make it worthwhile.....hopefully.
look forward to hearing some recordings later in hear here section  well done.......smoke

I don't remember if it was this forum or not, but someone was having problems with strumming patterns and rhythm. I told them don't worry, keep at it and one day you will wake up and realise you can do it. I guess I wasn't too full of crap huh? Conquering a big hill like that makes it easier to atack others because now you know you can do it. Congratulations!
