The thing I find the most interesting is that my hand sometimes automatically goes to the correct chord or note when I don't even know the song. I guess the intervals and notes are becoming more like a language than musical theory. Of course I'm not talking about huge improvised leads straight from my head, but the little things you notice are great for spurring you on!

same here. lately my fingers and mind together are understanding intervals. it took me forty years tho.

How long: Approximatley 120 days
What music: Christian Rock
What guitar: Some kinda electic Fender strat thingy...

My first gig was approximately 119 days ago. I was signed to Tooth and Nail records that night...

Just kidding.

I like punk, hard, and acoustic rock (Christian), so does my older brother who has been drumming since he was like five (21 now), and so does my twin (20) who is learning harmonica and piano. We have jammed about 3 or 4 times since I began guitar. I think the first thing we ever recorded was "Bad to the Bone" by the Destoyers. lol. I played some riffs added to the harmonica and drums. It was epic. Next, we tried our hands (and mouths) at "Michael, Row Your Boat Ashore." That was pretty fun and simple too.

My inspiration came from a christian band, Sanctus Real, with the song "Things Like You." Love that stuff. Right now I'm working on a song by Switchfoot, but I need another guitar in there. lol. The song is "Gone."

As far as lessons go, I'm working from a CD/DVD/Book set by some guy named Bert Casey.

Love guitar. 8)

God Bless!

hey blenderman.

I'm a big switchfoot fan myself. I used to listen to a bunch of Tooth & Nail when i worked at a christian bookstore - although I haven't lately.

I've learned Chem 6a, meant to live, and stars.

the riff in stars is pretty satisfying to play.

but i gotta get gone now... like al pacino's cash

How Long: 9 years as of Dec. 08
Music: Metal-Progressive Rock, whatever is fun to play.
Guitar: Washburn 7-string main, epiphone Sheraton II back-up.

Honestly though what I enjoy playing varies greatly, because I really enjoy listening to the hard stuff but I find that I really enjoy playing classical works with lots of distortion and/or reverb. Currently learning Fugue in Gm (BWM 578) or "Little Fugue"
Fugue in Gm There is also a vid on youtube with the "Metal" version like I'm doing but I cant seem to find it anymore.

I honestly depends. I change my strings every 2.5-3 months and it depends on if I'min the mood to do a different tuning. Usually I keep it standard, with the 7th string be a Low B. Although I have fooled around with having a high A and droping it down to D standard with a low A. Having anything below the low A just sounds real slopy becuase its so low. Once I got frisky and tuned to C standard and had a high F.

CatMy original post made this clear I thought. It was Guitar Hero for the Xbox, and later Rock Band. Yes its just a joypad, but it gives you a visual on the rythmn patterns and improves your timing etc. Guitarists generally hate it without ever touching it, but the few that do actually like it (as a game). Without it I'd never have seen my 7 year old daughter thrashing out FreeBird. lol. She's got a proper music education now, instead of that kiddy pop or worse still rave music. :)

Brett Michaels has a bonus song in one of them, they did an interview in which he stated "I like to think I'm a pretty good guitar player, but I just don't understand this thing, I can't even get through my own song"

He also said something like that in the bonus section of the game I believe

In Space, no one can hear me sing!

Never saw the point of Guitar Hero (for an actual guitar player) except it gives people a way to play guitar without really learning how. Kind of like a step beyond air guitar. I'd have probably loved it if I hadn't taken up learning the actual instrument.

Regards,

Mike

Rum,

Well I don't think it's quite the same. I mean I play baseball and football and basketball but I still like to play Madden footballe tc on Playstation and obviously it's not the real thing but it's fun.

So just because I can play guitar doens't mean I wouldn't/shouldn't/couldn't have fun playing GuitarHero or Rock Band.

it's like comapring apples and oranges they are two differnet things entirely.
