Just curious how much money most players have invested
in their guitar(s). Seems like I'm slowly investing more and
more!

Thankfully only about $200 so far. My goal is to make back every dollar I spend eventually.

You may want to post what you have invested and how much you have sold. Maybe you will break even... Ha Ha

I couldn't even being to think of the amount of money I've spend every years let alone since I started my Quest. Guitarist like myself that have been playing and collecting guitars for forty some years. It's an investment, speaking for myself I spend whatever I need to get whatever I want.

JoeThats a good point I was not counting what I have had over the years only what I have now.

Everyone note:

After this post

"HA-HA-HA-HA you can't be serious. Are you trying to depress me?"

He came back, after counting his guitars and told us the cost... This was 5 hours later... Again, this was FIVE hours later.

I guess around $3,700 for the guitars and amps I still have, $500 or so for accessories (picks, capos, cables, straps, tuner, multi-effects pedal, GuitarPort), hundreds for books, magazines, software and videos. I've also sold two guitars and given one to my nephew that cost another $500 plus combined, but I got back around $400 from the sales.

To paraphrase the credit card commercials:

1997 Fender Stratocaster Plus -- $650
2003 Guild D50CE -- $1,000
1996 Gibson Les Paul -- $600
1997 Taylor 420R Limited -- $900
Peavey Classic 20 Amp -- $175
Fender Hot Rod Deluxe Amp -- $400
Toys to go with the guitars -- $500
Jamming with friends -- PRICELESS

One way to look at it is that I could have spent $5,000 on a cheap (very cheap) boat, used it a few times a year instead of every day, burned hundreds of dollars worth of gas and sold it in a few years for less than half of what I paid for it. With the guitars and amps, I'd wager that I could sell them for at least 75% of what I paid for them years from now, and maybe more. If you buy right, playing guitar is not that expensive a hobby in the long run.

Taylor 420R Ltd
Guild D50CE
Martin OM-1
Fender Stratocaster Plus
Gibson Les Paul Studio
