i'm looking for a guitar that is very clear and transparent sounding. a guitar where there doesn't seem to be anything between you and the amp/speakers, just a steady, solid tone that i could affect to fit my needs. nothing distinct like a strat or tele or sg or lp. i played a prs se once that kind of had that feeling, but i didn't buy it at the time.
anyway, anybody have any suggestings?

This transparent enough for you?

I started with nothing - and I've still got most of it left.
Did you know that the word "gullible" is not in any dictionary?

I have the PRS Santana SE and suggest you get that. I see it online for around $500 all the time.

nah. i can't stand the balance on those things. they feel too light, like you're not really playing a guitar. i love to rip the holy hell out of them from time to time, and that model just seems too fragile.

Wasn't the Eric Johnson Stratocaster designed to be transparent?
(Or is that just hype?)

If you have a great axe, and want to try a better pickup, Dan Torres has some interesting choices. He does answer questions and might be able to guide you to the sound you want.

The other option is to go with someone that custom builds guitars. There's one on Ebay that makes accurate replicas of vintage guitars, including matching the woods and pickups. Of course, you need to know exactly what vintage guitar has the sound and feel you want.

In addition, don't forget to upgrade the wiring and sheilding

errr .. get an acoustic? Im confused, surely an electric is an electric and will have issues of tone based on amp and pickups...
