hey, I think its time for me to replace the stock tuners on my 2003? fender standard MiM strat. Someone pointed these out to me before, and I jsut want to make sure if they will fit or not.

http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Tuners/Guitar,_solid_peghead/Grover_Mini_Locking_Guitar_Machines.html

I measured the headstock of my guitar, and on one part it was 8/16'' thick and another part was about 8.99/16''thick. On the website it says at least 9/16' thick.

Also it says that these are mini tuners, but will they still be the size of normal tuners?

These are my favorite tuners. If it helps, I just put a set on my Fender 'licensed' copy. I think because they are so close to being the real thing they need to have the license. In any case, I would expect them to fit if they fit my neck with no problem. 8)

If it was easy it wouldn't be worth doing.

What you should do is look at the specs page for those tuners. That will give you the length and diameter of the shaft as well as the placement of the screw hole. You might need to take one of the ones you have on your guitar off to measure the current hole.

I think it's called a 'mini' because the turning knob is smaller than normal.

"These tuners will work on headstocks up to 9/16" thick" UP TO 9/16" thick. UP TO being the operative phrase. I don't think you'll have a problem with the length. Check the hole size though.

I've got Grovers on my Epi LP (not the locking ones though). I love them. Let me know how you like these if ya get them because I'm thinking of swapping out the ones on my Yamaha strat and Washburn acoustic.

Hate BB and "forced" to live in Jersey for the last 18 years. So Pffffffffft!

Anyway, back on topic:

BZ -- I just bought that same locking mini Grover set from Stew Mac to use as an upgrade for the kit Tele I'm building -- minis are the correct size for a Fender-type headstock. These same machines also came stock on my Reverend Slingshot, and work quite well. You will probably have to enlarge the headstock post holes to 10 mm in order to make these fit your axe. Do this very carefully, plus don't force the tuner into a slightly undersized hole, as this may split the wood. And of course, the rear screw holes may also be in different locations, and now will be only six. You should pre-drill pilot holes for these screws to avoid wood splitting.

Good luck -- Greg
