I'm looking to learn a new song this year for Christmas. I was hoping to learn "Away in a Manger" Does anybody know of a good tab for this song? Or are there any other suggestions of fun to learn Christmas songs for a beginner/intermediate player? thanks.

ps not sure if this is in the right forum or not...hehe

Check out the header on the home page and enjoy! :D

Just in time for the kids, grand kids, nieces, nephews, etc...

My fire dept. asked me to play on the firetruck for Christmas, we go to all the local houses and give out candy and fruit to the kids so I'm taking my Crate Taxi amp and I'm going to give it a shot! (In my turnout gear too!)

(OH MY GOD! I'VE GOT GRANDKIDS! )

When I die, I want to go peacefully in my sleep like my grandfather, not screaming......
like the passengers in his car.

That is very cool! Hodge's version of "Jolly Old Saint Nicholas" would be a great one to hear blasting down the street as the truck comes around.

thanks guys. I'll try some of those out. That version of away in a manger is different that the version I was thinking of. I'm familiar with that one too but the one I was thinking of must be in a different key or something. Thanks, though.

There are two versions melody wise...the one I posted is by Mueller, the other uses the Cradle Song for the tune...maybe that's the one you're thinking of.

Hello hello!

I finally managed to successfully register on this site after several months of trying (thanks to Nick for helping me out), and at last I'm able make my first post. So let me dust off this old topic here and ask a question or two...

I'm trying to create an arrangement for "Away in a Manger" for the coming Christmas Season. So far what I have is the following:

T -+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
e|--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------|
B|-1-1---------------------------------------------1-1----------------------------------------------|
G|------32-2-0-----------------------0---------2--------32-2-0---------------3--20-2-0---0----------|
D|-------------3-3-2-0----------0------2-0---3-----------------3-3-2-0-----------------3---0-2-3----|
A|---------------------3---3-3---3-3-------3---------------------------3---3------------------------|
E|--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------|

If anyone sees any mistakes let me know. I translated it from a piano sheet music arrangement, which was very tough since I have no experiance reading sheet music :-s

I'd like to spice it up a bit A La Doug Sparling or David Hodge style.... You know, with all the spiffy finger picking and smoothness. Maybe actually pick more than one string at a time ;). I was pleased to see Doug had already posted one arrangment that was very nice above, but I guess what I'm really interested in is learning the process that creates a nice sounding tune from a single thread of melody. I still have the piano sheet if anyone would like to see that...

I have many more questions related and unrelated, but I suppose I'll leave those for later.

Thanks!

Peace
