What kind of new start would give me a Red Hot Chili Peppers (John Frusciante) sound, keeping in mind I don't have a huge budget?

it's not going to take a whole new start to get his sound, whihc is actually fairly similar form song to song. what kind of equipment do you have? if you have a dist. pedal or an overdrive channel, and some single coils, it can be done

Think Hendrix: Marshall stack with a Fender Strat. Actually John has a whole bunch of different sounds and switches guitars alot: he plays everything from a strat, tele and even a hollowbody from what I saw on the one dvd of the chili peppers that I have.
