We've all heard of acoustic pickguards curling where they come to a point, but here's a story to make you truly afraid of this phenomenon!
I was playing my Epiphone Acoustic about a week ago, while giving a lesson, and was strumming, using a pick. On the downstroke, my thumbnail caught on the point, and the point of the pickguard when into the skin under my nail and broke off! My student's eyes just about popped out of his head. Plus, now my pickguard has no point and my thumb hurts. Oh well, I gues i've gotta replace my pickguard now...
Wow, thats amazing, would have loved to see a video of it. Just have absolutely no clue how I could reproduce such special effects. Hope your thumb isn't hurt too bad...
Ow.

Ow.
That pretty much sums it up.
Stairway to Freebird!
the word "literally" made me think that someone was impailed on a pickguard and died :D
Guitarin' isn't a job, so don't make it one.
^lol, yea I thought someone had died because of a pickguard!
Sounds like a story worthy of the Discovery Channels "Impact. Stories of Survival"
All kidding aside I hope your not in too much pain.
