First I have a seagull acoustic cedar top. The last set of strings were martin 12's. When I strum I use the back of my thumb for up stroke and middle finger for down. I get a sound when I record that I don't like at times, its like a bright sound, but at times gives off a bell ringing type sound. I know part of it is from my nails and maybe I am not even enough in my strokes. I can't strum with the flesh part of my fingers ( thumb on down stroke, index on upstroke) so I thought maybe a new set of strings with a softer tone might help....if anyone can recommend strings like this I would appreciate it

Do you have a clip that we could hear? It could be technique or it could be the guitar.
