Well, okay, some of those Chinese "Gibsuns" are pretty obvious.

Here we have a totally stock Squier '51 that some guy is trying to sell as a Custom Fender Strat.

click

I've already reported him to ebay (you should too!), and sent a message to the seller as follows:

"You may not be aware of this since you got the guitar at an estate sale, but it appears to be a Squier '51 which retails for under $150. But it's always possible it really is a custom Strat - can you post a clear picture of the headstock and the serial number? Thanks."

I'm not expecting a reply.

Curiously, the guy's last ebay purchase was for a fake Fender Strat decal ...

Also, the auction specifies "NO PAY-PAL. MONEY ORDER OR CASHIERS CHECK ONLY." Obviously a red flag. But then he's got PayPal listed as the preferred payment source! LOSER!!!!!

I was going to do just that, Dagwood, but the auction says it has a reserve price of $225.

I am seeing a lot more bogus guitar auctions on Ebay lately.

Well he has dropped his BIN price to $200, and added the following:

"I'V BEEN GETTING ALOT OF EMAILS SAYING THIS IS A SQUIRE. WHAT EVER THAT IS. AGAIN I KNOW NOTHING ABOUT GUITARS. EVERYONE HAS BEEN SAYING MY PRICE IS TO HIGH, SO I HAVE DROPPED MY RESERVE. :

Now, why would someone who knows "nothing about guitars" be buying a fake Fender Strat decal???

Further, he had a prior guitar deal gone bad and the buyer left him negative feedback (which for some reason was withdrawn):
"Seller lied about condition of guitar-sent piece of junk-filed claim w/ebay-ppal"

The guy is scum!!!

I sent him this message:
Just curious as to why you are selling a Squier '51 ( http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Squier-51-Electric-Guitar?sku=519636 ) as a Fender Stratocaster? I was also wondering how you liked your Fender Stratocaster decal you purchased on August 16, 2006? Why isn't the guitar's headstock in the photo?

Just an FYI...I (as well as several other GUITARISTS) are reporting this to eBay.

Thank you for your time! :-)

I think if EVERYONE from GN were to email him (without telling him it's posted on GN!) he just might get scared!

Yep, he knows what it is and was trying to get away with passing it off as a Fender "Custom" guitar. Doesn't show the headstock in the pic, and buys a Fender decal. What a piece of work!

i also emailed him and ebay, pointing out his BS scam earlier this morning.
good job slej.
edit---
i pointed out to him just now how GC would have told him what it was and that the "dummy" routine wasn't working because ebay had plenty of other 51 squiers for sale

Yes, good work to all (I emailed him as well). But, I am sure he will be back, trying again to sell it as a Fender Stratocaster. Keep an eye out!

That guy is a flat out crook. He should be brought up on fraud charges.

And the feedback he got from that seller on the decal is unbelieveable:

"GREAT!! GREAT!! GREAT!! Pleasure to work with. Great for EBAY!!"

All that for a $0.25 sale??? Maybe that guy should be checked out too.
