I compared my friends guitar and mine and my guitars strings seem to be farther from the frets than my friends. I think thats why I have to press SO hard to get a decent sound. I think it's cause the neck is bent inward, so it raises the strings about a couple millimetres
is there a way to fix this?
how much will that roughly cost?
Probably depends on where you live and who you take it to. For a complete set up, I usually pay $60. That includes everything, labor and strings. They should check and adjust the neck, the action, the intonation, restring, check the frets and possibly dress them up, check the nut. Dang, I think they do some more but I just can't think what it would be.
Oh well
check out my website for good recording/playing info
how they reset the neck back to its original position?
It depends whats wrong with it. It may just need a truss rod adjustment, or if its more serious a neck reset, but this might not be worth it if you guitar isnt worth much. If you ask in the repair section of this site you might get more help, but I think your best bet is going to a trusted guitar repair man and getting a professional opinion. It should not cost you anything for a quote.
A setup costs about $60 US, although I get a new bone saddle thrown in at the same time and it costs me $75
If you need a neck reset, that will run about $200 US.
