Hey guys,
I like to play around using 3d software when I'm not jammin on my guitar so I thought I'd mix the realms and create a 3d model of my ESP Viper-50, please take a look and tell me what you think!

Nice,
The crits I have is that the bevel looks kind of strange as well as the shiny part only being on the bevel (intentional?). The strings are somewhat thick too and textures really bring out models so it would be worth texturing. But overall nice job. (btw...I do 3d stuff too)
A hoopy frood knows where his towel is....
As a one time computer science nerd, I've done a litle bit of 3D modeling, and this looks great! What program did you use to do that?
Do something you love and you'll never work a day in your life...
3dsmax... andrew, any idea how to make a metalflake texture?

One quick and dirty way to achieve a basic metalflake is to create an image texture that looks like TV static, just lots of random black/white/gray pixels. Use that as an alpha channel map for your color texture layer(s). It'll vary the reflectivity/specularity/luminance/whatever you apply it to as an alpha. You'll have to play around with the opacity and/or "weighting" of the alpha map to make sure it's not overpowering your surfaces.
I'm an old-school Lightwave user myself though, never really played with Max that much...not sure how the texturing system works.
Also, check to see if you have mixed single and double sided polygons on your model. As someone else mentioned, the bevel looks a little off, like maybe the shader couldn't quite figure out how to resolve the geometry. :)
Oh, and to keep it on topic, great guitar!
that makes sense.... I tried using a map called fuzz which is the same a the tv static, but I can't get it to sparkle properly, I'll have to keep playing with it... I think I may have to start over on the body but hey, its good practice...
Theres a few things I need to do on it yet, like the LTD on the head, strap buttons and what not... I'm trying to post the reference shot I used but stupid geocities isnt letting me log onto the filemanager...
