I used to be into 3d modelling for couple of years (mostly cars).
I would suggest you to worry less about rendering and materials at this point - concentrate on your modelling skills. It looks like your mesh is not very "clean".
Look how smooth is your reference guitar, look at the creases on top of the body. Your model looks kinda "bumpy"
Keep it up - your next one will always be better!
