I was browsing around for my next guitar purchase. I want a Fender Strat with a whammy. I went to Guitar center and to my surprise, very few had wa wa bars? Why are there no more whammy bars?
I know when I have been to GS latly a lot of them have been removed. My guess they just pulled them off so people did not steal/brake them.

Yeah I know the owner of a local music store and he takes them off as people pinch them! Mind you someone pinched a whole guitar a couple of years back. Just picked it up without him noticing and legged it. I think it was worth about £2500.00
yea they all have whammy bars most are off in the store but it'll be inthe box when you buy it.

that's right. the whammy bars are removed because 'browsers' steal them. the white plastic tips are the most valuable.
Hope you've been faring well, Randy...I'm just getting used to being a free agent again! Ha!
Stolen. They all get stolen.

It's amazing the parts that are missing on the guitars at Guitar Center. The dings and scratches too.

Do they at least give significant scratch-n-dent discounts?
If it's just cosmetic stuff, I wouldn't be offended.

I've never asked but I think I saw someone post on here that they wouldn't. I had to settle for second choice of color on my last Epiphone Les Paul I bought cause the one I wanted had a big ding in it. Oh, they could order one but who wants to wait forever?

Not in my case they didnt. they would not deal at ALL on a LP that was missing a knob, the switch tip, switch that worked on and off, a loose jack, and a big divit on the back. Luckly they had a NIB one also, and that turned out to be a great guitar!

Yea I had the same experience when I bought my Epi LP from GC. The pickup covers were all discolored and there was some other small cosmetic thing wrong which I forget now but they really won't do anything with the price. I think they took like $20 - 40 dollars off and then tried to tell me the guitar was worth more than what I was paying or some nonsense.
I've never gotten GC to do much as far as price.
