Hello all,

I'm not really sure which forum to post this, so apolgies in advance if I'm in the wrong spot...

I'd like to hear from anybody who has put together a compilation CD for a charity benefit...anything from planning, logistics, financial, legal, etc. And just general organization things to keep in mind.

Here's my project. Originally I was going to put out a CD of my own music to benefit a local center for grieving children (and their families) who have experienced a death related loss. I won't go into details here, but I lost my father at a young age, and this project has been on my mind for a few years.

As some of you may know (if you've read my GN lessons), I have played Irish music for quite some time. The city I live in has a pretty strong Irish scene and I decided to see if I could get some other local artists together for the project, as that would probably result in more sales (and there is one touring band here who is quite popular whom I've worked and recorded with).

I ran this idea by a friend of mine who happens to book one of the larger Irish fests in the US and asked me why I didn't use national artists and do national distribution. He has direct and personal relationships with some very big names in the Irish traditional and rock scene.

So this is where I am - a small idea has germinated into a larger idea. Right now I'm trying to determine if it can be done, but I'm looking for help, or at least some advice, from someone who's done something like this.

A composer friend of mine is setting me up to talk with the CFO of a non-profit org that did a similar project, so that's a start.

Any help or suggestions anyone could make, that would be greatly appreciated!

Doug, I dont have any help for you but I would like to ask that if this takes off, will you please let us know when and how to purchase such a CD? I lost my mom at a very young age too and I'd like to help in any way.. even if its just purchasing the CD.

Jim, I certainly will let you and the GN community know about the CD and project if it does happen. I have a phone meeting tomorrow with the president of a California non-profit that did a similar project thanks to a mutual friend.

Greetings,

Saw your post. I just released a CD of international lullabies to benefit a Tibetan Children's fund. You can check out the details here on my site:

You can read about the benefitting organization here:

This has been a great and inspiring project. Take a look at the sites and then I'd be happy to speak to you further. Send me an email at [email protected] and we can set up a time to speak on the phone.

PS 2 great Irish pieces on the CD...Garten Mothers Lullaby and Gaelic Lullaby

Mike
