Pickup spacing?

Evening all,

I'm thinking about adding a spare single coil pickup I've got knocking around doing nothing into my Pacifica (which is already a bit butchered for those who know it). My question is, do pickups have to be a certain distance apart so as not affect the magnetic fields etc.? I would like to literally put this pickup right next to the bridge humbucker but don't want to do this if it's going to mess up magnetic fields and therefore the pickup ability of both the existing pickup and the one I'm putting in there.

They're bound to interact a little, but I've seen 3 and 4 pickups bunched right together. What's a split humbucker but 2 single coils with a SHARED magnet? That works fine.

Thanks Ricochet. I would split coils if this humbucker allowed it but it doesn't have that facility, plus I like the idea of further customising my guitar! :-)

You can put'em anywhere you want, but I believe there is specific "sweet spots" for pickup placement. In other words, you get a better sound out of the pickup in certain positions.
