I like the original pickguard on my tele, but I wonder if a black color is better.
what do you think?
personally I think the black would be too conflicting
Who needs a signature?
I mean really...
It's almost always lyrics...
or a cliche...
or garbage about me...
Lets just save YOU from the pain, ok?
personally I think the black would be too conflicting
the old teles had black guards; that's why Im thinking.
I do like the look of my tele as is.
but.....
Down here in Texas we have a saying
"ain't broke don't fix it" -- What I am suggesting is --IMO the white looks better and you seem to clearly like it so why change it?
If it's not too expensive buy a black one and periodically switch it out from time to time if it is more of a "kinda bored with the looks right now" thing.
Yeah, either or. I think both would look good, but I'm kind of partial to the white. I personally would stay away from the abalone. But that's just me.

i like the black on either a sunburst tele, or one of those 50s classic teles with the butterscotch finish. beautiful
if i were mick jagger i'd say i see a pickguard and i want to leave it white...cheesy, i know. sorry
I just bought a sunburst strat with a rosewood neck and a white pickguard and I think I'm going to put a black one on. I think it looks a lot cooler and it will sound better :D I'm going to leave the white pickup covers and knobs though.
I think the tele will look more retro in black. Do it!
Or remove it completely. That's what I'm doing.
-=tension & release=-
the reason I am considering a change is:
I have an upcoming gig backing a slew of pedal steel players at a showcase.
although my tele is not a true vintage butterscotch finish, there is a similarity. I'm tempted to give the guitar a vintage vibe for this group of steelers.
pluses of the white guard...I like leaving things as is when 'it aint broke'., I like the clean look, and white doesnt show greasey finger prints.
negatives of black guard...it shows greasey fingerprints and pick scratches, and, it would be pretencious since the tele is a new Hwy 1 and not a nocaster.
twistedlefty...that abalone guard and knobs are over the top. too gaudy.
when I got my Tele I chose a black pickguard because 80% of the ones in the shop had white, and I do like to be different in some way!
(actually no Tele I've seen is quite like mine: black body with red sunburst, black pickguard, black neck 8) )
I would go with the black. It gives the axe more depth.
i think black would look better. if you have photoshop, photoshop it and see.
What about tortoiseshell?
I started with nothing - and I've still got most of it left.
