After reading the stairway to heaven post, I tried to record the parts which mikespe recorded, as a reference for him to follow. As I recorded it, I found a big problem, I would have to set my amp on extremely high volume levels jsut for the microphone to play it a nomral volume. If not, you would have to raise the computer speaker volume to the max jsut to hear my recording. Im sure this is a comp microphone problem.

After all that, the main wuestion is, why is my computer reocrding my guitar at such a low volume level, and what can I do about it?

Btw, im using the goldwave software, I also have audacity

Working in Windows? Then have you?:

1. Opened the volume control
2. Selected Properties from the Options menu
3. Selected the Recording Controls radio button
4. Made sure the Microphone is checked
5. Click Okay to open the recording control
6. Selected the microphone to activate it, and
7. Adjusted the microphone slider as needed for good recording sensitivity.

If so, then ignore this post

On the advanced recording microphone setting make sure mic boost is selected.

Where did you put the microphone? Normally you mic an amp a few inches away from the speaker. Of course, a computer mic could require a different kind of distance. You should try amplifying after you record too. You don't want to record at too high a level and risk clipping.
