until recently i'd thought that singing was something that people just "did", without having to learn any technique at all.........
.... and until recently i was very sorely mistaken.
i'd appreciate it very much if somebody could give me a place to start investigating, as soon as i'm done posting this i'd like to read the articles hosted on the site... perhaps somebody knows of good books on technique and vocal exercises?
thanks..
Easiest exceise is to pluck a note and hum it. At least half of singing is ear training, and this should help you with your ear. Other then that find a key you are comfortable singing in focus on that untill you improve and then start expanding until you find your entire range.
check out your local library, mine had several instructional CD's, VHS and audio tapes.

try singing or humming a note to your electronic tuner
its quite interesting!!
The other day, I put my tuner on auto (auto - it tells you which string/note your playing) and then sang and hummed note to see if i could get all of them in order and hold them steady for very long!
I didn't do it for singing purposes! just was messing around :D
Step 1: Pick a song you want to sing.
Step 2: Sing it a thousand times and try to do better each time.
Step 3: Record youself, listen, and realize how much more work you need to.
Step 4: Go back to step 1 and repeat f-o-r-e-v-e-r.
Speaking for myself....Once in a while I will get a compliment on my voice. But hearing a recording of myself can be brutal at times. But it does make me want to improve.
