im looking to learn songs that i mean everybody knows, even people who like rap. i usually play for my friends and most of them know metallica and van halen and so on, but when i play like for example hit the lights they can't all sing to that. so here some of the songs im thinking of, or ones that i can play, for example. born to be wild, you really got me, rockn roll all night. and thats about it, if anybody could think of songs that i could learn to play i would be very thankful.
Green Day - Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)
Bob Dylan - Knockin' On Heaven's Door
U2 - One
John Denver - Leaving On A Jet Plane
AC/DC - You Shook Me All Night Long
Not all that rockin' unless you want them to be (excepting ac/dc of course), but basically everyone should know the chorus' to these songs (and if they don't, high time to learn..)
it may be the wrong genre but greenday- time of your life, i've never had a single person not recognize or sing along with me

These are pretty good sing-a-long tunes -- many know at least the chorus:

Casey Jones
Takin' Care of Business
Satisfaction
Back in the USSR
Johnny B Good

Many Beatles' tunes

Mike

Now we're talkin'. I've always hoped for a post like this but I would like it to have been “Songs everyone should know.†I think guitarists should have maybe 40 songs as standard crowd-pleasers. Hopefully this post will now be the place to pick up your “need-to-learn/know†songs. Some great suggestions so far. I'm getting my pen out….
