Anyone know of any songs that the solo is in A minor?
No acoustic songs, and it should be fairly upbeat and rockin!

Uhm - depends on what you mean
1. A song where all of the notes in the solo comes from an a minors scale (even pentatonic maybe)?
2. Must it be the original key or can it be transposed?
3. Must it be an actual solo - or are you open for improvising?
From the top of my head I don't know a single song that fits criteria 1 - although there has to be many out there, I've just never been good at *learning* solos.
But,
Every 12 bar blues in A can be soloed to with the A minor pent scale.
Else, look for songs with an A minor progression - say ... All along the watchtower Am G F E, also songs in C will be OK - same notes in the C / am scale.
May I ask - why :-)

Lars,
Thanks for the reply and yes you may ask why. Because I am going through the minor pent scale now with my teacher and he has given me riffs and fills in the Am scale to use to improv over a backing track so ithought it would be a good idea to learn a song that uses the note from the Am pent scale.
I just can't think of any off the top of my head at the moment.

Funny, there are probably thousands of popular songs with the solo in the Am Pentatonic, but when you have to think of one you go blank. :D
After Midnight- Eric Clapton
Lay Down Sally- Eric Clapton
Rock N Roll Hootchie Coo- Rick Derringer
Stairway to Heaven- Led Zeppelin
Rock N Roll- Led Zeppelin
Manic Depression- Jimi Hendrix
Think of more later...

If you know something better than Rock and Roll, I'd like to hear it - Jerry Lee Lewis
I usually will use a small cassette/cd player to record a blues rhythm (something simple) and then play over that. Don't know if thats what your looking for but it can be fun. Its a simple idea that I would have never thought of without my teacher mentioning it to me.

Anyone know of any songs that the solo is in A minor?
Maybe you could cheat a little...
If the only criteria is that you use the notes from the Am scale in a solo then you've got a fair choice, as it's the relative minor of Cmajor and therefore has all the same notes.
And there's a zillion solos that use the notes from the C major scale. Just as long as there's no sharps or flats you're cool.. 8)
But I'm sure you knew that anyway... :)
A, C, D, E and G (the notes you'll be using in the Am pentatonic version) obviously all work fine on any backing track in C major too. Unless I'm getting confused, these are also the same notes found in the Cmaj pentatonic. ACDEG=Cmaj pentatonic and Am pentatonic. And there must be a heap of songs in C major that use the Cmaj pentatonic for the solo.
Cheers,
Chris
Thanks for all the suggestions guys I've got alot to choose from.

Along those lines, you can also pick up a Roland PMA-5 from ebay usually for around a hundred bucks, and it will play any chord progression you want, in many different styles, with drum, bass, guitar etc, at any speed you want .. pretty nifty. Anyway, I think we are off topic, he really wanted the solos to learn.
