Well that big inventory problem has been a good thing for a lot of guitar lovers. I have 2 51s now and it would take quite a deal to increase that number to 3 or 4 but never say NEVER. LOL.

If Fender does make a version of this guitar, what wood would you guys prefer they make it from?

Most Fender Strats are made of alder, aren't they? Since the '51 uses a Strat body, my guess is they would use the same ones as they use to make the Strats. Can I get an AMEN?!?

I hadn't really thought of swamp ash, I was kind of expecting alder or basswood. I thought that it might be interesting to see what different people thought of this subject. As for me, I don't really have a strong opinion on the subject but the basswood Squier sounds good so far.

I really don't think Fender could improve this guitar much. A heavier duty bridge, saddles, and nut (and perhaps tuners) would be good, other than that I think any other change would mess the guitar up. Although this is an inexpensive guitar, Squier got it just right. This is a great sounding and playing guitar as is.

And I don't know about others, but I really like the stock pickups. I love the tones you get out of this guitar. I would never swap these pickups out at all. I was A/Bing my '51 with my American Strat with a DiMarzio HB in the bridge last night, the Squier humbucker was just as hot. And this is up against a great DiMarzio pickup.

I too plan on getting another '51. I just plain like this guitar.

Hi Wes... I too thought the pickups were pretty nice, but since I have this thing apart for my other mods (the guinness stuff) I figured I'd hot-rod it anyway... I have a Duncan JB humbucker laying around, and a Robert Cray Fender neck pickup... so those are going in as soon as I finish the work on the headstock. Probably won't make much difference, but why not since I have it apart?

By the way - am I the only one who loves the humbucker and single-coil configuration? I always have felt that the middle pickup didn't add much value in a Strat (aside from possible humcancelling). I never use the middle pickup. This configuration (S-H) seems like a very nice combination. You get the nice single-coil neck sounds and the aggressive humbucker-bridge. Simple and effective.

Holy moly! That is one hefty markup!
I bought mine on sale a year ago for 140 CAN and the regular selling price at that time was 199 CAN (equating then to maybe 150-160 US).

What kinda store is that? They sell a Dean Vendetta 4 for the 'Special Price: $1,299.00'. That would be about 1000USD while it generally sells for about $400. A basic Epi LP std. goes for 750USD! Wouldn't it be cheaper to have Musiciansfriend or Music123 ship it to you?

Arjen,
It is one of the "BEST" music stores here in Sydney and the prices are very competitive (here in Australia)..
We just get ripped off for being so far away from everything.. :x
I want to hold and play the guitar before I buy it so shipping is out...
Thanks anyway

Keith

It's not just Australia.....Misanthrope told me you guys in the USA are picking them up for £50, roughly, the cheapest one he's seen in the UK is £125......a 150% difference!
