<sigh> At least we still have our, um, let's see now. We've got something of value, physically speaking. I got it. I'm sure we are both swell dressers..........crap, not me. My son's GF is coming over and he mentioned something about my shirt and needing to change.

<sigh>

Oh, and that little tart's in my car last year and sez, "Oh, I love this car. It's just like my Grandfather's."

<sigh>

is this where I tell my Les Paul story? okay then ...

went to LP's 91st birthday show at the Iridium in NYC. his bassist -- a very comely European lass -- says, "You're looking good Les. You're looking real good!" and Les replies, "And so are you, honey. But I can't do anything about it. The only thing hard on me is my hearing." <rimshot>

seeing LP is like going to a vaudeville show.

ah the brio. a ball point pen. I think fountain pens create more friction.

Les Paul is 84 today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

oh the damage I did to myself growing up. I saw quite a few concerts and stood next to the speakers.
as kids we used to sit in a closed garage banging cap gun rolls with hammers. bam! our ears rung and we'd laugh.
today my ears have a high pitch hisss all the time. when I go camping and it is really quiet at night
the hiss is pronounced. some of it is blood pressure noise. but there's damage.
the things you experience in life take their toll. it shows up after you stop blooming.
we are mortal.
we break and we can be fixed.
we end up dented.
dings.
character.
just like our guitars. :)

Tinnitus is really annoying. Looking around the 'Net for cures (of which there are none), I have seen blood pressure cited as a cause of it, as well as the usual exposure to noise over a lifetime - music, hammering, car workshops etc. I find mine does get worse if I'd had a lot of salt in my diet that day which probably relates to the high blood pressure theory. Also stress is noted as a factor.

I don't listen to loud live music now without my earplugs, but I just can't do away with my headphones (usually up too loud).

i'm only 29, but if i was a guitar, i'd be relic'd. not one finger on my right hand is fully functional. i can't fully straighten out my thumb. i sliced my index finger knuckle tendon and it gets sore and feels separate from the other fingers. my hand is broken between my middle and ring, and i can't move the last joint of my pinky.
but i do some pretty nasty rhythm work with it. i make my claw work for me.
as for the rest of me... :roll:

as for tendonitis, i get it worse from my computer than the guitar. my touch pad on 1st person shooter video games is a killer.

I've always had Tinnitus. It's much worse (louder) now due to all the ear garbage I gots. Sometimes I get all three forms at once. Screeching, buzzing and pulsing. Ugh!

Jason, what happened to your hand to cause all that?

One of the many things I've read while researching possible causes for my ear issues was that the bones in the ear actually wear with age. Someone getting Tinnitus or losing hearing could be for no reason what-so-ever. Very few people go by the book as far as ear protection. I rode motorcycle with 1/2 helmet and without ear plugs. I normally had them with me at concerts though. The one time I didn't....wow. I wish I had. It didn't cause anything, but certainly did nothing to help.

Getting rid of the Guitar Player Survey nasty was a bit of an effort so eventually I said I'd never been there before and thought it was rubbish.

Good article, says what it needsto say.

i tore my thumb wrestling, cut my index finger tendon on a piece of glass, broke my knuckle boxing, and cut my pinky tendon due to a slippery knife handle.

Yeeouch! I was assuming one big, nasty event did all that. Not four nasty events. Dang!

Hiya, Jase...

Yep, it's all part of heading toward that hole in the ground! I get recurring arthritis in my hands...all from guitar, I am told. BAD news...like someone taking those restaurant crab-claw-crushers to your fingers. Ouch!

Occupational therapy WILL help...so I hope you have insurance or (if proven to be job related) Workmans Comp.

Sorry, matey!
