I am trying to get a "Gary More / Still got blues" long hanging sustained sound out of my guitars and V-Amp.
But when I am using my Yamaha (humbuckers, "tune-o-matic" type bridge and strings trough body) I have a problem with that other strings (other than the played) starts to "sing" the same tone that is played.
That becomes a problem when I play a new note on the first string that is a in dissonance with previous note. I need to mute the "in sympaty" singing string to avoid a dissonance sound. ( N.B. this is with no amp, just V-Amp in Hi Gain setting and headphones).
When I am using my other low cost guitar ( single coils, "stratocaster tremolo bridge") I don´t get the same problem with "in sympaty" singing strings that needs to be muted.

Is this behavior with "in sympaty" singing strings typical for guitars with Humbuckers, "tune-o-matic" type of bridge and strings trough the body?

Nope - it's symptomatic of too much gain.

Try one of the "Marshall" crunch settings and add a good dose of compression. That should get you close.

If you go to my sound click page, and listen to "Monday Morning Lament", you'll hear something kinda close.
Here's the link to the orginal thread where I detail the signal chain:

"Jelly, Jelly" has tons of sustain, but I used a Strat with a squeaky clean amp for the lead and smashed the jeepers out of it with compression.

Playing guitar and never playing for others is like studying medicine and never working in a clinic.

I found out a solution this "problem".
By reducing the level from the guitar I could "move" the low level "song" from the open strings below the threshold point of compression/gain of the V-Amps "Hi Gain/Drive Amplifiers".

But I believe that a solid one-piece Tune O Matic bridge "transports" vibration between the strings and to the guitar body in higher degree than a multi-piece "stratocaster tremolo bridge" with individual string adjusters.
