I start my first private guitar lesson at the Austin School of Music next week. I'm nervous.

Congrats, but don't be nervous, have fun!

I looked up your school on the net. The home page looks like a cemetary. :D

It's true, it does. They seem like nice people, well established. I hope it's worth the money - $95 dollars for a month.

If you go to Faculty they have a list of instructors at the top right with sound clips.

That teacher Van Wilks is great, get him for a teacher.

Nope, it's too late, I'm going with, um, Willie Scoggins. I hope he's good. I'll ask about Van, though. Yeah, I just listened to Willie's audio sample, it was a really cool solo.

Good luck at school! And hey, $95/month isn't too bad... I know of a GN member, (won't mention any names  ), who's mom dishes out 3 times that a month for private lessons! Willie sounds like he can play! 8) Have fun. :D

I've seen prices for lessons up to $45 per hour, if you times that by 4 its $180 monthly. Cheapest I found were $15 for 30 minutes, but ya get what ya pay for.

Definitely have fun with that. And yeah, maybe a little bit of a price tag will be a little extra incentive to work hard at it and get the most out of it!

Well, I had my first lesson and it was GREAT! He gave me some exercises on tremolo picking and another picking exercise. I don't have a decent metronome yet, but I've tried the tremolo picking on Death Cab's "title and registration" and am playing the first bit much more accurately and quickly than ever before. He's also trying to help me keep my wrist still; apparently I turn it all weirdly when picking the strings.

These lessons are going to rock; the price is more than worth it.
