Hi guys! I found a vintage guitar that I like. It's a 1977 Olympic White Fender Stratocaster. I'm getting it for $1,800.... Personally, I think that is a GREAT deal. But my dad doesn't. He doesn't think it's worth anything... So I'm asking for your opinion. How much do you think a 1977 Fender Stratocaster (Olympic White....it yellowed over time somewhat...) is worth?? Thanks!

Mint? As much as $950

Not mint, for instance yellowed, $650 max

all numbers are MHO

Just to give you a ballpark, I got my close to mint 79 USA HM strat for $300.

Sorry but I'm with Dad.

There's a '65 Olympic white Jaguar on e-bay asking $3K (with no bids), and two '90s reissues for under $300.

The only '77 strat I find is a banana creme for $430.

For $1825 there's a refinished '54 Strat (closing in 16 minutes)... I'm with Nick - it's way overpriced.

Goooday Best of the Season to All

i do not post very often, but the vintage tag caught my interest
I have a 1966 F40 Guild (acoustic)
-reset neck
- new frets
-new rosewood fingerboard
-average character marks ,maybe one or two more than average
-one down fall is , I am not sure if the tuners are original (grover)would this affect the value?
Any comment or value estimation ?

Thanks

70's Fenders were once considered crap, because of all the bad re-engineering CBS did on the entire line upon purchasing the company from Leo. It's amazing how these once-scorned guitars have been rehabilitated now that they are old. Plenty of vintage guitars are indeed little more than junk -- and that includes many of those 70's Fenders. Unless you play it and like it and know what it's really worth on the market (e.g., per Nick's advice above), walk away.

For $1800 I'd want Jimi Hendrix included in the deal.

You're getting hosed here. Go to the fender forum, people will think you're joking.

Thats http://www.thefenderforum.com if you didn't know.

This is one of those cases where it really pays to do your research. It pays $1000 in fact.

Do something you love and you'll never work a day in your life...

Vintage? Just call it 'used' and see if you still like it twice as much as a proper, new, deluxe strat.

So that's a no, no, no, what's mine worth, no, only with Jimi included, no and no.

I think we have reached a consensus.

How about locking it and pinning it so we can all see there was once a topic we all agreed upon? 8)

this is a first for any message board on the whole entire internet! i agree, lock it up! let this be known as the perfect thread. people will come from all corners of the internet to witness this unbelievable feat.

The first time I heard a Beatles song was "Let It Be." Some little kid was singing along with it: "Let it pee, let it pee" and pretending he was taking a leak. Hey, that's what happened, OK?-some guy

WOW! Not only was it unanimous, but no one said "it's a personal thing, play it first!". That's got to be a first on a guitar opinion question.

Don't waste your time and money , someone is trying to soak you good.

Yeah, well... a personal thing means preferring a Ferrari to a Ford, not paying for a Ferrari price for a Ford :)
