Hey all, I was wondering what exactly it is that keeps you playing the guitar?
Are you playing to get over that hump and finally play along with stairway to heaven? what keeps you truckin!?
just the faint hope that one day I can play a song all the way through ;)
The drugs ;) ... well, music is my drug of choice. :P
Seriously though, what keeps me going is the high I get from playing, particularly when I pull off something that just blows me away (eg. playing Don Maclean's "Vincent" all the way through and having it recognised, or playing both harp and guitar for Neil Young's "Heart of Gold").

The sound of hitting a huge E chord with my amp cranked behind me keeps me playing forever. 8)
If you know something better than Rock and Roll, I'd like to hear it - Jerry Lee Lewis

And all the things you said to me
I need your arms to welcome me
But a cold stone's all I see
Let my heart go
I enjoy it :)

Here is to you as good as you are
And here is to me as bad as I am
As good as you are and as bad as I am
I'm as good as you are as bad as I am

I find it's a good stress reliever. An effective way to express myself. A means for communication. A constructive hobby. Something cool to talk about. An activity I can take along with me to boring places. It sounds cool.
One of the main thing that keeps me playing (on days when none of the aboce works) is spending time hanging around other musicians. Sharing my experiences, and learning from theirs, keeps me motivated to play on those days when it doesn't seem to be working out.
those wicked guitar solos i want to be able to play, but require 22nd frets and such, and i've got an acoustic XD.
plus, I want to be able to solo behind my back, and maybe with my teeth, a la Hendrix
Hey.
I am addicted to the vibration of an electric guitar plugged into an amp.
when those sound vibrations hit me I am in bliss.
also, discovering and learning different genres of music keeps me hungry.
and then there is GAS.
but for sure it's the vibrations and creating something from nothing.
