While we are on the subject.

Would this be a good deal or should I go to Farm and Fleet?

Depends on what you want -- a bargain guitar or a guitar+experience or a low cost, custom axe.

My wife bought me the Tele Saga kit from Torres ($125-ish with S&H). I haven't quite finished it, but have made a fair number of modifications and hardware subs to bring it up to snuff: Threw away the strings and cord (garbage). Added an electrosocket jack plate, Grovers, brass inserts in the neck to take machine screws (allows repeated neck removal for travel), better switch and pots. I dumped the pickguard and will either use a neck pup chrome ring or a way cooler MOTS pickguard. I also drilled the body and the bridge and added ferrules to allow for thru-body stringing. Hardest part has been lacquering the sucker -- still not quite done. So I've spent an extra $75 bucks + lacquer, but when finished, expect to have a fairly reasonable, somewhat unique, knockabout guitar. If it turns out to be real player, I'll probably upgrade the pups as well. I'm sure I could have hunted down a cheaper, "good specimen" Squier for what I've spent. OTOH, I will get that unique finish.

Honestly, the kit is good for just over $100. It certainly requires a bit of mechanical and painting skill, but not too much. Someone who is not familiar with guitar construction, yet has some mechanical inclinations might very well enjoy the experience.

The Les Paul kit looks better made than the Tele kit, but don't expect a bargain/miracle guitar. First of all, it is not mahogany, but lighter weight basswood; and it has a bolt-on neck. If all you are looking for a real bargain, buy a Samick or similar for a few bucks more. It will be worth it.

I guess I was thinking of the building experience. I know nothing about setting up a guitar and thought this might be a good way to get the experience and NOT ruin anything I already have. ( I have a Squire Strat, Washburn Bass, and my beloved Schecter C1+)

This would be a great addition to the collection if it worked at all. Not looking for a cheap way to a good guitar. But I'm thinking the experience would be good for my knowledge arsenal.

Thanks for responding, Gnease.

If you want something similar look for a build your own telecaster kit cost about £65 ($110) then paint it with green wood stain.
