Hey. I'm a new user, and I've been playing guitar for 4 months now.
Anyway, enough about me. Help me now.
My high E and my B string, the two high ones, make a hissing noise sometimes when I pluck them. Not always, but sometimes. The high E more often. Mind that I've got an acoustic, and I haven't changed my strings yet.
So guys, if you could help me out, mucho appreciated.
Hey.
Is it a hiss or is it a buzz?

Is it a hiss or is it a buzz?
As well as is it acoustic or electric? If it's electric is the hiss coming from the amp or somewhere on the neck?

Well, to me it sounds like a hiss, but I guess it could be considered a buzz.
I think it's more of a hiss though.
It almost sounds like my strings are on their deathbed. If I change them to do you think that it will stop hissing?
Hey.
and um, art&lutherie, it just happens to be an acoustic Art & Lutherie.
Hey.
4 months is a lot on strings that were probably on there awhile to start with so I would change them and see what happens.
Don't be a wimp - hiss back!
I started with nothing - and I've still got most of it left.

Nils is right. The first place to start would be with new strings. If you still hear it after you change them, post again! :D
(Sorry, art&lutherie! Didn't mean to snap! :D )

Someone please make a snappy comment about the Art & Lutherie thing please. I would, but as I am a newbie, and i always see the same names in posts. I don't feel I have the right to just yet.

I heard guitars do alot of things but an acoustic hissing. Interesting. What are you doing when its starts doing this?
Joe
Try taking the guitar into the bathroom and stick it on a stand when you shower. See if the extra humidity lessens the noise.
It could be fret buzz, burr on the nut or saddle, loose brace, long loops of string curled up at the headstock, loose pick guard.
IMPORTANT NOTE!!!! DO NOT take the guitar INTO the shower with you!!!!! Leave it outside the shower with the bathroom door closed!!!! :D
