Hi i was wondering if anyone could help me. My thick e string keeps on coming off the fretboard when i am playing. The string does not break only slips off at the nut. How would i be able to fix it this? Should i simply carve a deeper hole at the nut?
Possibly. That can put your string too close to the fretboard and cause buzzing problems, though. If the string's too big for the slot and won't go down into it, the slot may need enlarging. The slot might not have been cut properly in the first place. That would need to be fixed. If the nut's worn down or broken on the outside of the slot so it won't hold the string securely, you may need a new nut. Or you may be using too light a string gauge with a lowered tuning, so the string's not held down tightly at the nut. Or you may have a guitar with a flat tuning head and no string tree to hold the string down. Hard to tell from here what the problem is.
