I have a SX Tele that the fret are 'sharp' on the edge. Since it's a cheap guitar, I thought I might try filing the frets myself.
I've never done it before, know nothing about it, so should I try it?????
If so, are there any sites, forums, etc. I can go to get some pointers?
Once the frets have been filed, their crowns need be shaped again, because they will be flat from filing. Then the frets need to be well polished on their surface. This is done with a rotary tool, first with an abrasive attachment and then again with some metal polishing compound, to finally get a mirror like surface. If you use a search engine you'll find plenty sites that explain the procedure.

If you're talking about sanding only the edges, where the strings don't touch it, then you can probably just go ahead if you're a decent filer. Consider sandpaper as well. If you're going to file the part of the fret you play on, then you'll want to do some more research.
