Hi, my luthier has just died and the other one i trust is 150 miles away. For my more expensive guitars i will travel however i have a lot of inexpensive guitars that now i think have to do myself, so my wife suggested i should try and ask online for help. She signed me up to here as im very bad with the internet and would just like some helpful advice not just being reffered to youtube or having to do a lot of searching. So i would like some pacientce. Thanks

I have quite a few guitars with problems as i play live in many different tunings. I play mainly strats as i can get some of the squiers on the cheap and they can fill my needs. I also play some gibsons, fender mustangs, pre lawsuit japanese les pauls and a few others.

Right now i have a strat with a bowed neck. I had tuned it to all f# apart from the g string being in c#. It has a wedge in the trem lock. I just want to know how to fix this and when its fixed how to make sure i dont get the same problem when i put it back to that tuning.

Thanks.

A bowed neck normally means you need a truss rod adjustment. No more than a quarter turn - you'll soon figure out if you've turned it the right way (I'm a classical guitar player; we don't have these problems)

So would it just be a quarter turn at the top of the neck on a strat? Would it be anti or clockwise? Should i remove or loosen the strings first?

I can't remember which direction does what, but yes - do loosen the strings first
