I got tired of laying my guitars on the bed in the guest room to change the strings. Without fail I'd lose a clipped end somewhere on it. Then cleaning and polishing is a whole other story. Bottom line you need a dedicated place to work on your guitar.

So yesterday I was in a creative mood. I took some old shelving, leftover carpeting and padding, a short 1x3 stud. You know, the stuff you save thinking that one day it will all come in handy. Well Sunday was that day.

I built myself a guitar bed, I was going to call it a guitar workstation but that would get confused with the software. Regardless of what I call it I think its pretty cool. A little rough around the edges, but it was a plan as you go type of project.

Here are some pics. If you can figure out which end of the saw won't cut your fingers off you can build one yourself.

Looks good.

I use about the same setup thats mounted to a bottom tool box that rolls, 9 drawers and a built-in digital tuner.

Looks good. I may have to upgrade since what I did was cut a U in the side of a 2x6, padded it and just use it to support the neck.

I like your idea and you can still put it on the bed if you want

You'd have to get them made parts and labor and profit for less than $35

Where was that patent... it was just laying around here somewhere... Damn!!!

Yes... all those thoughts ran through my head. Short run production, 5 or 10 at a time. Selling them on various guitar sites. Problem is that wood doesn't roll up quite as well as foam rubber so shipping becomes more problematic.

Much like homemade ice cream. It's a lot easier to buy it from the store, but not as satisfying.

Thanks to all those who took the time to look, and thank you for the nice complements.

Correction, less than $10.

This on the floor = perfect guitar stand. Used by pros and me alike:

Small enough to fit in your pocket. Stable enough to be confident with my LP.
