My friend gave me her mom's old guitar that is from like the 70's. The pegs (i think they are called pegs, but they are the little twisty things that tune at the top) need to be replaced it i could probably use a new furnishing. Im wondering how to go about refurnishing it and if i could even find those pegs. Also the part at the top of the neck which has little slots for all the strings to go in is loose. Can i just super glue it back on?
yes you can get tuning pegs (the twisty things at top), if by refurnish you mean put a new finish on, thats not my catergory. as for the nut (the thing with the slots, you can probably get away with gluing and if you are really careful. any kind of height diiference will make the guitar play funky. your best bet may be to have a new nut put in. just some thoughts

You don't really need to glue the nut in place, the tension of the strings will hold it steady. You can put a little drop of white, hide or epoxy on the thing to hold it in if you like.
yea i was thinkin the tension would probably keep it there but i think ill put a tiny bit in there just to be safe. anybody know anything about putting new finish on?

Does the guitar have any name on it? Is it an Acoustic or Electric? Have you tried tunning it?
Perhaps once you get it in tune everything may work well enough to at least practice with it. Then post a little more info and we could direct you toward parts needed or with a search engine to see if you can find replacement parts. As far as refinishing it, the way it looks now gives it character.
