I'm babysitting a hollowbody electric for my wifes son. It's got a small portion of the nut gone. I'd like to replace it for him. Is it fairly easy to do? How do you go about doing it?

It's not difficult but not real simple either.

You will more than likely not find a nut that is pre-cut and shaped for the guitar so you will have to find one that is the same thickness and maybe width and height. You will then need to cut the width if it is not exact. Next you need to cut the string seats in the nut. To do this properly you need special files which can cost upwards of $100 or so.

My suggestion is take it to a shop and have it done by them If you go for bone it will probably be about $25 or $30 fitted.

Whew, when I saw the title, I thought someone was trying to get rid of me!!!

I started with nothing - and I've still got most of it left.
Did you know that the word "gullible" is not in any dictionary?
