I have a yamaha pacifica that I have not played in 6 months. I can't sell it and I don't really like playing it. So I've been recently thinking of random additions I make to it (feeling a little early Sonic Youth-y) to revitalize my interest in it (or at least make it cool) including new necks and whatever but I decided it would probably be better to start small.

In short, I wanted to put bass strings on that guitar so as to make a hybrid.

I realize I'm not the first, Presidents United States of America, Jason Crawford, random people on the internet have also done this. I'm sure there are commercial batars out there too......but I have lots of spare time this summer so I would like to DIY...myself.

I realize the truss rod's not going to be too happy. I fully understand the risk in doing this but quite frankly, if this guitar breaks, neck snaps in half or whatever, I quite frankly do not care.

Basically, I just wanted to ask if anyone else has done this and could give me tips or feedback.

I'm also a little inexperienced so I wanted to know what sort of modifications to do. Do I need to modify the bridge and the nut? Do I need to put in different pickups? Do I need to play with the truss rod? etc.

Thanks!

Hey.

the nut slots need to be widened to recieve the heavier string. bridge, a bass bridge with four saddles would be in order.

i feel bad for your fingers.

you should make into a guitar with builtin speaker. Install a little one right into the electronics and have it mounted in the pickguard, maybe between two humbuckers. With a clear pickguard.
