I have a white guitar but i have noticed that where my upper strumming arm sits on the face of the guitar it is starting to get a hint of a black smudge like a shadow or the laquer and paint wearing off, surely this cant be right,it ill ruin the look of my Jazz guitar.Any ideas on rectifying this or stopping it getting worse?

Fairly obvious thinking about it...Dont play a guitar wearing a short sleeve shirt!

you must have a really thin finish.. my bass is 31 years old and ive been gigging while its in my possession solidly for the last year or so. and i play metal so i sweat a lot.. its got more belt buckle rash than anything. id try and maybe clean it with windex and see if that gets rid of the dirt. if not you might just have to live with it unless you want to strip the guitar naked and start over....

Rubbing compound would probably remove it...Then get some polish, maybe a wax type coating
