I did some more research and figure it must be the "amplifier" chip... ok...
So what can I do? Is there a way to replace that?
When I plus the guitar in an amp, all is good.
When I switch it to use the internal speaker, I get a very very very weak sound, as if it was asking for much more power.
I tried plugging earphones in place of the speaker: sound is good!
so is the problem really there? would it be something else?
what can I try?
Should be identifiying marks on the chip. Usually anything with a "C" in front of it means a capacitor but it does look like an IC chip, probabily the transistor array for the amp. I'm not familiar with the fernandes circuit but you may be better off getting a replacement circuit board unless you are good at troubleshooting on a component level.

I just tried to post but it did not work, so second try!
I managed to take a decent picture of the other side of the chip. It reads out:
TOSHIBA 9301U
TA7313AP B M'SIA
I did some googling and found this for example:
http://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/Toshiba-TA7313AP-Single-Channel-Audio-Power-Output-Amplifier-SIP9-TA7313/328333_1035908052.html
Should it simply work?
Thanks!
It is an audio amp chip, alternate part number is ECG1465. Get it here, http://www.mcmelectronics.com/product/DISTRIBUTED-BY-MCM-/ECG1465 Ali express is a pita to deal with and MCM is pretty good to deal with.
