In September 2006 I held a couple of lap steel clinics at a Vintage Guitar Show in Denmark, got a DVD of one of them, and forgot all about it until now... (duh!).
So, tonight I sat down and made two videos from it and uploaded them to YouTube, here they are:
"Unfinished Business" (including the ending of "God Only Knows", I did them as a medley)
"Poet On The Radio" (unfortunately the guy filming missed the beginning)
Because of a tight budget I couldn't bring extra musicians, so I had to make backing mixes and play them from my laptop, and use my POD - both run through a rather dubious "PA".
There's a few 'clunkers' here and there, especially in "Poet...", but what can you expect at 10AM... 8)
Hope you enjoy them!

S. I will ask the same questions for the benefit of the guitarnoise family.
it looks like you play bare finger. true? and do play with a thumbpick?
thanks for posting the videos. it is nice to see you play.
you did a fantastic job at the workshop.
in some moments you sounded better than on the great CD Southern Moon Northern Sun.
Great stuff, Steinar!
What sort of steel are you using?
The wah's a really nice effect, I'm going to have to play with that.

And you'll get the same answer  -
Thumb pick and two fingerpicks. These days I play more and more bare fingered, at least when playing with overdrive,- I feel I'm able to get a wider variety of tones that way. When I want a clean clear sound I prefer to use picks, same when I play weissenborn.
Rico - the steel is an Asher Electro Hawaiian, unfortunately I had to sell it a while back. Yeah, the wah is a cool effect, personally I have to be careful with it because it's so addictive... 8)

Oh yeah, that's a sweet guitar! I was just asking about the slide. I forget that "steel" is ambiguous. :D

Aha! At that time I was still using a Shubb SP-2 as my main bar, this was before the Tribotone was available. For the 'sitarish' sound at the beginning of "Unfinished Business" I use a glass "Slipperyslide" from Lapdancer Guitars,- it has a narrow flat side that produce the 'sitar' sound.
Cool. :D

Awesome work Steinar! 8) Thanks for sharing. :D

Thanks for sharing.

Wow...great job Steinar! Nice tone and I love that lap guitar.
Looks like you had Backing tracks playing through your laptop and your guitar going thru the Pod? somehow to PA?
Thanks for sharing those video. 8)

Yeah, that's right, there was no budget for bringing a band so I had to do it this way. The "PA" was of a rather dubious quality, so I'm surprised it sounds as decent as it does on these videos.
