I woke this morning with a song in my head. I got some coffee down and recorded it before it went away.
it sure needs some work.
it is 'untitled' so far.
Martin acoustic
Rickenbacher lap steel
and a sorry voice.

click on the blue line below...until I learn how to post it right.
thanks for listening.

After listening, I called my entire family to tell them how much I miss them. Thanks man. Now my mom is going to expect this weekly. :P

Good stuff. I really liked it.

Dogbite

Does John Prine know that you woke up with his Muse in your head?

I don't see anything wrong with this as is. Maybe clean up the mix a little
but I really like it.

As for a title maybe "I Smoke His Brand"

Good Job

That was my favourite line...
Nice job, db. I liked this a ton.
:)
Edit: A lot of folks, including me, have signatures turned off with the site re-vamp, so they won't see the blue link.

wow guys. thanks. this song has been in my head all day. I am hearing more things instrumentally.
I am haunted by the simplicity of the whole piece. I do like it.
'I Smoke His Brand' is now the title.

I am not sure where this came from. I dont write songs usually
so I am a bit surprised. indeed some one's Muse slept with me.
it wasnt a dream, but when I woke up there was the song. cool.

I will go back into the mix. maybe flesh out the steel part.

wow. thanks for listening. this is new territory.

I have remixed and rewrote my song. it is updated as of now.
and soon to happen...I have a pedal steel guitar player lined up to crearte a track.
I can't wait to hear that.
the new version has made it to number three on the country blues charts at soundclick.
I am shocked.

there also is a debate and I would like your feedback.
some say the song is fin with my lap steel playing.
some say I should add bass and drum.
I hear pedal steel.
I would welcome all comments now and after I get the pedal steel in.
thanks.

I like very much the new version. I wouldn't add anything, to me it is perfect!

Thanks!

That was awesome. It really hit a chord with me, I lost both my parents earlier this year and I still miss them badly, probably will till I die...your song made me cry. I loved it!

Great update, db.
I could definitely hear bass and maybe drums.
If you go with just the lap or pedal, I'd bring them down in the mix.
Right now, the lap steel and your vocals sort of compete for my attention.

thanks for the comments. they are gratefully noted.

boxboy..I agree. I may have to re record my vocals; I had the mike input too low and really had to full thottle in the mixer.

nuno..maybe I will sneak in a strat part ;) if the lap steel stays in I need to play it better. C6A7 is the tuning. it is new to me.

cnev...I hear you. and yes, when things go well I miss my parents.
I realized why this song appeared in my head. it came to me on the sixth anniversary of my dad's death.
I had forgotten, but those important moments have a way of surfacing .
my dad loved steel guitar. when I began playing electric he would always ask me to do a cowboy song.
I would roll my eyes and shut the door.
so now I guess I am paying him back.
hence the word changes.

the pedal steel player is working on a track now. I hope to have it for your review soon.
thanks all.

Leave it alone. Its perfect as is. The line "I smoke his brand" is a great hook And the lap steel fits right into the song. So don't go overproducing this, its truly wonderful roots music as it is. If I still smoked I'd have a kool filter king hanging from my lips 8)

hey dog. I really do like the earthy roots feel too. in fact I am going to take this song in two directions.
I am going to push the roots feel further.
and
I fellow formite form the steel guitar forum, Joe Savage (an incredible psg player) has just sent me a track with fills and main lick. I asked if he would . he did. it's killer. it works really well. it feels roots country.
I am going to mix it in later this week. maybe tonight.

thanks for listening everybody.I appreciate all the comments. they are helping.
