I wasn't sure if I wanted to post this, but I figured what the heck, I haven't did any singing (use that word loosly) in a while, and why I wanted to try and cover this song had a decent backstory, so here's the back story as to why I wanted to learn this song:
I was driving to work one night and saw a homeless guy laying on the front steps of a restraunt that was closed. I had to stop at a red light and I kept looking over to see if he was asleep. He wasn't wearing a coat, it was cold (It's Cincinnati, it just went from 74 one day to 35 the next), and I really couldn't tell if there was something wrong or not.
I went to get food at another restraunt and drove back around, and by that time there was a group of people and an ambulance in the parking lot, I looked to see if the guy was covered in a white sheet, and thankfully he wasn't, he was sitting up and was covered in a warm blanket.
Just got me thinking about this song and so I thought I'd give it a go.

Thanks for watching, and stomaching the singing if you were able to make it through the whole thing!

I thought I already replied to this post... perhaps it was in YouTube although it is not the comment there... :?:
Anyway, Joe, nice story, you are a good guy! :D
On playing, your strumming is very firm, the chord changes are very smooth and the 'solo riffs' really well played. Perhaps there are some minor problems with the voice but I envy you!
you can sing. you appear very comfortable playing and singing.
keep it up.
you have fine voice.
Thanks guys!
I felt pretty comfortable singing this song, but like in almost every song I've tried if the verses are okay (and by okay I mean you don't want to rip the headphones off your head and go screaming into the night), the the chorus and the bridge is always off key/pitch.
I had been singing this acapella to try and find that key for those before I tried to do it with the guitar, and noticed alot of where the problem was coming from and could very easily hear myself being off key and did my best to adjust and sing with that adjusment alot before doing this and posting it.
I do however think that compared to when I started doing the whole singing and playing, it's gotten a bit more tolerable. Thanks for all the help for that for sure, lots of valuable information over this past year.

Nice playing and singing. Wish I could sing worth a hoot.

"I wonder if a composer ever intentionally composed a piece that was physically impossible to play and stuck it away to be found years later after his death, knowing it would forever drive perfectionist musicians crazy." - George Carlin
Anyone who sings and also videos the event get's my vote. Nice job.

Nice song 8) What can I say..that was from the heart 8) I even shed a tear or two listening to that tune. :note2: :note1:
Yeah, I tend to make people cry into their pillow when I sing, but that's because the ears start bleeding!
Seriously though, it's a really well written song, and did the same to me when I heard it a couple years ago.
Thank you for watching, appreciate it!

Dude, you have improved a lot.
I remember your first several attempts . . . you could hardly hit any of the notes.
This is a definite improvement.
What did you do?
What ever it was keep it up, it seems to be working.
You're still flat in some parts of the song . . . . but a definite improvement.
I have a feeling that part of the reason you're better is strengthening your voice . . .
because where you are flat, your voice sounds weak, shaky and strained . . .
so maybe just more singing to strengthen your voice . . . is why you've improved . . . but that is just a guess.

It's the rock that gives the stream its music . . . and the stream that gives the rock its roll.
Thanks Ken, I really appreciate the comment!
I posted just a bit ago in the singing forum about comparing my voice now to then, and is it realistic thinking that I will get better without lessons, or have I gone pretty much as far as I can go.
A couple of things I did do was stop trying to sound like the artist, and sing acapella and adjust to what was not sounding right. I still didn't hit the marks in some places, and could really tell when I was singing, but that was the best I had at that point. Also got used to moving around the whole soft pallet thing, that took a while to get used to, and was really weird.
And you are right, I think the strengthening of the vocal chords as helped as well. Hopefully this time next year there will be even more of an improvement, or I could just find the time and money to take some lessons, but I don't think that will happen.
