ok. I am finished with the obscure stuff for a while.
here is an old country favorite from the first wave.
I am revisiting C6 tuning and playing my 1936 Rickenbacher Model 59 lap steel.
C6 is very cool. the way my strings are laid out, I have a major chord on the lower triad
and a minor on the top three strings. I could raise the lowest string, C, to C# and have a major seventh, but I didn't.
anyway.
Nuno is back and playing a great country bass track.
he and I have been covering the genres.
this is country:color of the blues

Wow, I'm getting a real Bob Wills vibe there! Does the song only play for about a minute? My file stopped after that...
Sounds good! :)
the song should run three minutes fifteen.
did ya put a nickel in the right slot on the jukebox?
I think we're A 11. :)

That's funny, that's the exact sound I got. I just imagine an old run down cafe with one guy sitting on a lone barstool with the waitress trying to comfort him. Jukebox in the back that you have to kick to start.
Really nice job guys! I think this has invoked more imagery to me than the other songs, gotta be my favorite so far.
In Space, no one can hear me sing!
That's really cool! I love that tone 8) How do you tune that (From hi to low) :?: What amp are you using :?:
Thanks for the comments!
Again it was a great opportunity to me but I was afraid this time. It is the first time I play a country song and probably it is the... perhaps the third country song that I listen (really I listened the first Dogbite's version and a different version on YouTube). It is not an usual style here although there are some good fans.
Fortunately Dogbite is an expert and he gave me a good number of advices. The bass line must be simple and sometimes it is not easy to play an easy and attractive bass line. I am very pleased with the result.

lap steel low to high...C E G A C E
no amp.
the lap steel is plugged direct into the interface. I added a touch of reverb, that's it. this lap steel has great vintage tone.
I didn't have to mess with the EQ or anything.
the tele is also plugged direct. same reverb. I added a vst amp sim. 'clean twang' it read.
I need to amend the lighting in my studio. when I play lap steel I have a shadow of the strings on the fretboard. if I don't focus it looks like I have a twelve string. it is harder to grab the real strings because the shadows make things confusing.
that's just a lame excuse for my sour lap steel notes.
dogbite, great tone, both your guitar and voice.
reminds me a bit of Johnny Cash. Love the solo.
That is fantastic, Dogbite. Classic country.
What a great sound!
Too bad you don't have someone local that plays fiddle. What a great time you would have then.
Way to go, Nuno. Once you're bitten with country, you're going to be coming back . . . not right away . . .
it sneaks up on you . . . but you'll find yourself enjoying it more and more . . . over a period of time.
It's the rock that gives the stream its music . . . and the stream that gives the rock its roll.
hey Nuno. we just hit number 10 on the charts. :)
Now that sounds so sweet and purdy! 8)

A number 10! It is a good number! :D
Ken, country is a special music. As I said it is not very usual here. I guess I will explore the style. There are not many records available here. Just the most famous singers, and I don't remember a song that was in the charts in the last few years. The blues is not usual but you can find some radio stations with that kind of music. Usually the blues is in the same department than the jazz.
However, I had a lot of fun working in this project. I think we started to work on it around two or three months. I had problem with my father and I had to leave it for a months or so. I played three different bass lines. The first one was a mistake, I used a different version and there were many wrong notes. Fortunately Dogbite detected it. I got the "country feeling" with that version.
The final bass line is an evolution of the second one, I made both from a test recording by Dogbite. I had to select what notes to play and where do it. Very enjoyable! And very fun, too!
Thanks for the comments.
Hey! The song is number 3 on the charts! :D
Can you guys autograph my lap-steel please 8)
Very cool song.
Dogbite, good vocals, and some exellent playing - i especially like the phrasing of your fills.
Nuno - i will have to listen to this again at work, my laptop is very poor at getting the bass to sound through, i have a subwoofer at work though, so i will listen again tomorrow and edit this post :D
