Okay, now that my gig is out of the way, back to doing things and singing, to get my vocals going.

I've been practicing but I can't seem to get from a soft consonant sound to the Long E and make is sound okay....I see me be all over the place with that. Maybe it's the way I'm coming off the previous lyric, I don't know....any help? Should this be in singing section?

gee Joe. this isn't working for me. I know and love the song and the rhythm pattern youuse , to my ears, doesn't fit.
also, your singing isn't really singing. more like speaking and following the truncated rhythm. I guess I need more fluidity and melody. your uke is a beauty... (ending on a positive note )

Hmmm.....I guess I don't understand what you mean by not singing. I know when I did it I felt like I was singing.

The strumming and pattern is the only way I've heard the song LOL. There is a guy out there on you tube land formerly MusicTeacher2009 (his account with over 300 lessons was suspended), and is now MusicTeacher2010, doing mainly public domain stuff now. I know it's a bit more upbeat than the original versions for sure.

But what bothers me is the singing...how do I know?

Joe. it is hard for me to explain. the words don't sound sung or drawn out to be melodic.
it IS hard to explain. so don't listen to me. maybe it is the upbeat trhythm that is throwing me off.

LOL, but you can sing, and all your advice has been spot on, be it singing, guitar, or whatever, so I do trust your judgement on this, I just don't know how to know. I'll ask my singing "coach" I guess you can call her that LOL for the difference between the two and how to recognize when I'm doing it.

I've tried playing and singing things on the Uke like 5 Foot 2 Eyes of Blue, Beyond the Sea, and I seem to sound the same, or am doing the same thing....maybe I can upload one of them for comparison?

I enjoyed it Joe, but it was a little bit off for me as well.
I was fine with the chunkier sort of rhythm on the uke, but...the vocals are doing a similar thing and it creates a disconnect with the lyrics. It makes the song sound very static. Very lock step.
I know the Sinatra version. It's is a sultry, lush arrangement, Frank messes with the beat like crazy, singing behind it, really bringing the lyrics to life. It is a passionate song after all.
If you were to vary your vocal phrasing some vs. the uke it might make it work better.

5' 2" seems like the perfect uke song, but I'd like to hear your version of Beyond the Sea. Great song. And another great singer*. Might as well learn from the best. :)

Edit: *I meant Bobby Darin. Didn't know there had been a remake recently. Who is Robbie Willams?

yeah. what boxboy said. he is so good with words. a flowing Fly Me to the Moon with a bit of bounce is so ingrained in my head. damn that Frank. sorry Joe.

 now I have it. the song needs to swing. to swing you put emphasis on the two and four beat when strumming.
the vocal then can float all over that tight yet swung rhythm. :note2:

Ah got ya!! Thanks guys, I appreciate the help! I hear what you are talking about.

Robbie Williams?? Don't know, I like the Bobby Darin version, but I always kind of do my own thing with the song, I have a hard time singing this and playing with my uke, the key changes get me, not that my singing is good by any stretch, but I'll try to get that one up in the next few days. I recorded 5'2, but it just sounds bad, I lose my breath when I get to the 2nd part of the song, which is singing double time I guess LOL.

I think I'm going to re-record this as well, I think I've "got it" from what you two have been saying, sounds a bit better with the 2 and 4 beats, more fluid, and I'm bouncing around the lyrics a bit to make it stand out a bit more.
