I am trying out a new microphone. so I thought I would belt out a favorite.
I've been living in Minnesota for a while on the west bank blocks from where Dylan
hung out. who would have thought that in 1965 when I got my first real guitar that
"Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues" was on the radio; that was one of my first songs on my guitar.
so I hope it is fitting that I offer up my version.
guitar: Martin 16GTE
mic: CAD GXL2200 condenser.
straight into audio interface.
mono and no extras.
Birthday Tribute for Bob Dylan
Wow :D I played my first guitar in 1965( i figured out "Lewie Lewie" on the E string on my dads guitar). I did not play guitar again until 1971. :D
Nice job Dogbite 8)
very nice!
so many places that are hard to see
so many places that aren't
so many places we want to be
so many times we are not
that sounded great! good vocals!
hey, we have the same guitar. great guitar isn't it?
Bravo Dogbite! :D
I'm also reading the "mic thread". It seems it is very good. Currently I'm at work with an small laptop without good speakers but the sounds is very clear!
that sounded great! good vocals!

absolutely my best guitar so far. how long have you had yours?
mine is about four or five years old now. it has opened up; become more balanced
and responsive to my playing. isnt' the neck killer? it feels so good.
so everybody...thanks for listening. my vocals are not embarrassing?
yeah. :)
Sounded great! You should do more :)
It's a dry heat!

i got mine last year right around this time. i'm now looking for a good tele. today i tried one out at GC. it was a KOA tele. I liked it a lot but I like all the tele's i pick up so i don't know how to choose.
p.s. your vocals are good!
Sounds very good, Dogbite!

When my mind is free, you know a melody can move me
And when I'm feelin' blue, the guitar's comin' through to soothe me ~
thanks Margaret.
Playing Dylan songs at me is like giving a donkey carrots - I refuse to move until I get MORE!
Nicely done, Dogbite - there's a very Dylanesque quality to your vocals, particularly in your phrasing, complements the guitar playing admirably. I happen to think you've got a good voice, but what REALLY comes across on the recording is the passion you put into it. Excellent job!!!
:D :D :D

thanks for the rave Vic. I really appreciate it!
as a teen I had a higher voice. then years of smoking ruined it. I had no wind. then I quit smoking and my voice , or air power, is coming back. my voice has a bit of rasp now. maybe because I am learning to sing from the diaphram or lower down than up from the throat. I like it.
also, maybe I am channeling Dylan because I live blocks away from the west bank where he hung out a long time ago.
or maybe because, it is rumored, that he recorded Blood on the Tracks at a secret studio a half mile down my street.
I tend to like singers who seem to understand the words they are singing. each word has meaning and it should be thought about. singing with feeling is better. just as playing with feeling.
the result has a little something behind it.
imagine a guitar center for singers. would it be like those kids buzzing mindless licks at high speed?
not for me.
when I sing 'Love in Vain' I practically lose it. it is such an emotional song for me.
(don't make fun, I have a black belt in karate;))

Tell me about it! I'd been a smoker for over thirty years till I quit - it's been nearly 6 months now and I can feel a huge difference, I could even after the first couple of weeks. Still haven't got anything like the range I used to have - but much more power, and of course if you're not struggling for breath half way through a line, your phrasing will improve enormously.
BTW, it wasn't just me who noticed the difference in my voice.....nearly everybody who heard my songs commented on it!
:D :D :D
