Hi all,
The band I sing a play guitar in, Daughters & Sons, has been nominated for best R&B/Funk band in Cincinnati and we need help as we have only been on the scene a little while. If you could have a little listen and if you like it over the other groups there give us a vote. We have been working so hard to even get noticed enough to be nominated it would be a blow out for us to actually win it. Go hear to listen:

and here to vote:

They can't take multiple votes unless you use a different email but we would rather not win that way thought we are sure the other band's are stuffing the ballot.

If you vote for us, thanks in advance,
scr@tchy

Thanks to anyone who ended up voting for us, the awards show is this weekend (Nov. 23rd), and if there is anyone who cares I'll post how it went for us.

One thing I would like to pass around is one way to beat a city tough on original music. I have been playing in different bands around Cincinnati and let me tell you, this is a cover band town. You can have a packed room, totally turn it out, have people coming up to you all night and really from their heart say "man, that was realy f-ing awesome"... we have people come up afterwards to take their picture with the band -but ever seeing them again is trouble. Been like that in this town for decades, really great bands playing to tumbleweed and eventually splitting up. They are not warm here unless you have been established outside the city first.

What has changed that for us is getting in good with the best local free newspaper. Our last 7 months have been unbelieveable and it is due in large to City Beat's care for us. They are also wanting a local band to do well, it's good for everyone. When Daughter & Sons started, I didn't care too much about getting word to the people (though we did), I wanted to cultivate a relationship with the free paper as a first priority. I thank them at every turn.

Well then, double thanks to you!!! We are all still a little dumbstruck by it, I came home and sat in front of the award and practiced improv most of the night! My telecaster thought it was all a bit too wierd.

I also had no acceptance speech worked out because I was sure that not stuffing the ballot was going to lose it for us. I actually had worked out something to say to the drummer for if we lost, "Well it's been nice playing with you, I quit" I don't know if I need a therapist for my loser mentallity or my sick sense of humor! Either way I will always work out some kind of winning speech in the future because my ease in conversation went right out the window when they said "And the winner is... Daughters & Sons" I totally stumbled through saying thanks and no one else in the band wanted to come to my rescue!

Our bassist is out for most of December due to his schooling and that cursed holiday. So we are using the time to finish off a new round of recordings, which usually leads us to writing a bit more into the architecture of the songs. We are only taking the gigs now that are what we think will have the largest draw. The next gig is on January 17th at the Southgate House in Newport KY. It is with a national act called The Dynamites, I hear they are good and I hope we learn something from them and their show. We will probably have something stuck in there before then though. After that we will resume booking ourselves and probably getting out of town a little bit more to the nearer neighbors. Now is the time for our rally cry!
