http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoID=1924307133 Here is a video of a gig that i did a couple of weeks ago. We hadn't played together before, but I called out the tunes and away we went.
Peter. I was using a Ibanez Artcore. It sounds and plays just as good as my Gibson L5 which cost many many times the cost of an Ibanez.
Thanks
Peter.

Sounds nice. Drummer's a little heavy on the cymbals, but not bad.

Don't know what L5 you own that doesn't sound alot better than an Artcore, but it's not any L5 I've ever seen ;)

The only difference in the sound is in the pickup! I use a Polytone Amp, and the Ibanez seems a little fuller than the L5. My L5 is from the 60's. I also have an L7, Guild X500, and and a 62 Guild Duane eddy. But I have no problem using the Ibanez. The musician makes the music not the instrument itself. Although I'm sure there will be someone that would argue the point with me. It's funny nobody said to me "your using an Ibanez?" They said they liked the music, and that what it is all about.

The only difference in the sound is in the pickup! . . . The musician makes the music not the instrument itself.

I don't disagree that the musician is the biggest component of the equation.

But I also know that the laminate Artcore does not resonate anywhere close to as well as the carved L5, and the difference is audible.

Don't get me wrong, I like my Artcore too . . . but it doesn't have nearly the sonic clarity of my carved wood guitar.

I agree acoustically it doesn't have the same clarity as a craved top L5, but the 60's L5 that I have is also laminated. The L5 without pickups were carved top. The L7 is carved top with a floating pickup that I added.

Ah, ok. When I think vintage L5 I think of the carved top one's ... ignore me :)
