Hi everybody
I have started to taking guitar lessons and I am using a Swedish Guitar Book "Electric Guitar Rock and Blues nr 1" .
Sofar I have done two lesson "homeworks" that I have recorded :
A simplified version of the second guitar solo from Black Magic Woman (Santana)
http://www.box.net/shared/dlq5i5mvco
A simplified version of the guitar solo from Smoke on the Water (Deep Purple)
http://www.box.net/shared/bs7ld1h0nk

The really good thing with taking lessons is that you is really focused to learn something and is putting in
a lot of guitar training time. It has been at least 2 hours per evening several days now..

Hey Kalle nice job, funny you should post Black Magic Women as I've just decided to learn the solo myself. ( I never was a big fan of the song and we were playing it for awhile but dropped it, but have picked it up again with the new band)

Anyway I digress. That solo is an exercise in string bending and there's a lot of it throughout the solo.

Some of your bends are not quite to the correct pitch and are alittle off. I think that will just come from practicing it a bit more. I just recently bought a small handheld recorder so for the first time I was able to record myself playing and I noticed the same thing in my recording that I didn't always get the bend up to the correct pitch.

Maybe I'll post what I have to let you hear it if I can figure out where I can post the clip.

Hi Cnev
You are right
Bending to the right pitch is really comming from lots and lots of practice..
And its more a muscle memory thing, than be able to hear that you are "right".
You must just stop the bending at the right "spot" by muscle memory ,
you normally don´t have time to "listen in" the bend.
And recording yourself and then listen, that will really reveal your weaknesses..
I will continue to practice half & full bends all over the guitar neck.

Kalle you picked a good song to practice with though since Carlos seems to want to bend about every other note in the solo. Yea it's just a matter of practicing the technique is not really that difficult and you are right it is all about the muscle memory and also to be sure you are using enough fingers for the bend and not trying to bend with one finger as you will get inconsistent results.
