Hey all!

I'm posting my first ever instrumental here... I'd like some constructive criticism (good or bad, I don't care as long as it's helpful). I've been playing for four or five years now, was in a band and used to play lead and felt my playing got stuck in a rut (you know the 'Good Enough' section where you decide to stop practicing). I then stopped playing completely for a year...

I've restarted playing over the past four months. Now I'm trying to get into instrumentals and it's challenging both my playing and my composition capabilities so I'm having quite a blast :P

Anyways, all yours... Feel free to rip it to shreds :P

Enjoy!

(PS-1: If anyone can drop me tips on how to better structure an instrumental song or how to work through it or something, I'd be more than grateful :D)
(PS-2: It's recorded through an M-Audio FastTrack USB... I dunno if the sound is up to standard or not... bought it a couple of days ago so I'm still playing around.)

Nice tune. I like the tone of the lead guitar.

Suggestions?
A B-theme would be great.
Your rhythm guitar is a bit off - I think maybe your low E is a bit flat?

Good work!

...only thing I know how to do is to keep on keepin' on...

Agree w/Lars. The rhythm was slighthly off. Good stuff tho!
Hey, I think I heard some clicking in the background.

Hey all!

Thanks a lot for the replies :) Ye I can hear the rhytm a bit off (especially during the clean sections - distortion is my thing, maybe because it can hide some imperfections  ).

About the tuning: Ye I always had a bit of a problem with the low E i have no idea why :S
About the clicks: I dunno why it's clicking... maybe it's some settings on my M-Audio (bought it very recently, still playing around with it). Or maybe it's my wire? Does that make sense?

Could be the wire. I have had the same issue with my MBox. Turned outto be a bad Midi cable. I would get this terrible clicking sound. Hook up exactly as you did when you recorded this song. See if you can detect the click. Then, remove one wire at a time/then replace it to see when the clicking stops.

Very nice feel and some good playing. Song could use a middle eight, or bridge. Tuning as noted. Clean playing is pretty tuneful, but I found the overdriven parts too overdriven. Also, speaking as someone often guilty of overplaying (too many notes, too fast) I'd counsel looking for some space to let the notes breath. Spaces in between notes are as important as the notes themselves.
Keep up the good work!

Thanks mesa. I can see what you're saying about the overplaying. I'm studying (note: studying!) a lot of Satriani right now, to try and understand how he comes up with his tunes. He's a great guitarist (obviously) and I'm having a great time learning from his music.
